Latina Authors & Their Muses

Edited by Mayra Calvani

Foreward by Leticia Gomez

Publisher: Twilight Times Books

The book is a collection of 40 interviews with multi-talented and accomplished women. This project was the brainchild of Ms. Calvani after having read another anthology titled Puerto Rican Voices in English. As a result, this new anthology Latina Authors & Their Muses endeavor was created with much respect for the many gifted woman that Ms. Calvani encountered across her career.

In reading the various interviews, readers will find information not only about the authors themselves, but much insight into the writing world as well. The questions put forth to the authors in this anthology were not only customized for each of the authors, but they also covered the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of the industry with regard to writing techniques and styles, marketing, and the publishing arena.

Many of the questions asked of these women go into depth on a personal level as well as into the business side of writing. For instance, some of the questions and answers cover the struggles and difficulties encountered during the writing phase, or discussion on themes and how these were chosen, the development of protagonists and other characters, plotting techniques, how much authors reveal about themselves in a book, and the various types of genres such as fiction, nonfiction, mysteries, science fiction, memoirs, poetry, and the list goes on.

Within this book you’ll find answers to questions you may have thought about the writing industry, but didn’t know who to ask or go to. This editor has put together this anthology with great insight and forethought and it really shows. If you are a serious writer, then this is a book that you definitely need on our desk as a reference guide.

A great plus is that it provides the reader with information on the many literary agencies, publishers, and awards available to writers. How can you go wrong with this incredible information at your fingertips?

If you don’t purchase another writing reference book this year, at least get this one. You won’t be disappointed. I will go so far as to say it’s almost a must because it’s that rich with good information.
