Otto Santa Ana is an Associate Professor and founding faculty of the César Chávez Department for Chicana and Chicano Studies at UCLA. He is a sociolinguist, studying the interface of language and social structure, and a critical discourse analyst, focusing on the role that discourse plays in reproducing societal dominance: how hierarchical social relations are enacted, sustained and legitimated through discourse.
