Restrepo, Bettina

Bettina Restrepo

Bettina Restrepo lives near Dallas, Texas with her husband, son  and very naughty dog. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993 with a BS in Communications. She worked in the corporate world for too long until she became brave enough to write full time. Most days, she can be found at her desk wearing pajamas until 2:30 when she reports for carpool duty. Bettina was born in Oklahoma to Colombian and German parents who immigrated to the United States in 1963.

She has authored more stories and magazine articles than she can count. Her first picture book, Moose and Magpie (Sylvan-Dell 2009) won a silver medal in the Mom’s Choice Awards.  Her 2010 young-adult novel, Illegal (Katherine Tegen Books, Harper-Collins, 2011) received starred reviews and was nominated as one of the top ten debut children books by the American Library Association. Bettina’s writing varies from warm and funny to heartbreakingly real and vibrant.  Her teaching and presenting style are just as dynamic.
