Marisa de Jesus Paolicelli is the author of the multiple award-winning children’s book, “There’s a Coqui in My Shoe!” Marisa is of Puerto Rican descent. Her parents were born and raised in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
“There’s a Coqui in My Shoe!” is Marisa’s first children’s picture book. The book went on to win two International Latino Book Awards: 1st Place for Best Educational Children’s Book (English)and 2nd Place for Best Children’s Picture Book (English). The children’s book also won a Latino Books Into Movies Award for 1st Place in the Animation Category. “There’s a Coqui in My Shoe!” is the first children’s book depicting Puerto Rico’s 17 coqui frog species.
Marisa’s newest release is entitled “Lightkeepers to the Rescue!” and is the first children’s book depicting Puerto Rico’s lighthouses.
Marisa’s desire is to promote a greater understanding of Puerto Rico and to stimulate interest in cultural diversity. Her children’s books not only entertain but also provide an educational component to children of all ages and backgrounds. The children’s books are full of breathtaking illustrations and capture the vibrant color and culture of Puerto Rico. She is extremely thankful to the illustrators of her books for making her written word come to life.
Marisa is also grateful to the many Puerto Rican celebrities and humanitarians who have endorsed and are illustrated in her children’s books such as Oscar Winner Rita Moreno, Grammy Award Winner Jose Feliciano, Professional Golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez, Television Actor Erik Estrada, Baseball Legend Roberto Clemente and Broadway Legend Chita Rivera. Their significant and positive contributions to the Latino arts and to humanity are to be commended.
