Stephen D. Gutierrez is the author of two collections of stories,  Live From Fresno y Los and  Elements, which won the Nilon Excellence in Minority Fiction Award.  He has published fiction in many magazines and anthologies.  Recent appearances include Fiction International, Fiction, PALABRA, Quercus Review and Sudden Fiction Latino. Creative Nonfiction and personal essays have appeared in Fourth Genre, River Teeth, Under the Sun, Third Coast, San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times and  ZYZZYVA.  He directs the Creative Writing Program at California State University, East Bay.
