J.L. Torres, author of The Family Terrorist and Other Stories (Arte Público, 2008), and the forthcoming novel, Rican Recall (Arte Publico, 2014), has published stories and poems in numerous journals and magazines including Las Americas Review, Bilingual Review, Crab Orchard Review, Denver Quarterly, Palabra, Puerto del Sol, and the anthology Growing Up Latino (Houghton Mifflin). Born in Puerto Rico, raised in the South Bronx, he teaches American Literature, U.S. ethnic literatures and creative writing at SUNY, Plattsburgh. Besides the PhD, he holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from Columbia University. He is the Co-Editor of Writing off the Hyphen: New Critical Perspectives on the Literature of the Puerto Rican Diaspora. He is also the Editor of the Saranac Review. Recently, he received a Fulbright to teach in Barcelona, Spain.
