Daniel A. Olivas is the author of six books, including The Book of Want: A Novel, and Anywhere But L.A.: Stories. He is also the editor of Latinos in Lotusland: An Anthology of Contemporary Southern California Literature, which collects sixty years of Los Angeles fiction by Latino/a writers. Olivas has been widely anthologized including in two Norton anthologies: Sudden Fiction Latino and Hint Fiction. An excerpt of his novel, The Book of Want, appears in New California Writing 2012 recently published by Heyday Books.
Olivas received a degree in English literature from Stanford University and a law degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. Since 1990, he has practiced law with the California Department of Justice’s Public Rights Division where he is now a supervising attorney in the Consumer Law Section. Olivas shares blogging duties on La Bloga which is dedicated to Chicano/a and Latino/a literature. He makes his home in the San Fernando Valley with his wife and son.
