Francisco Letelier was born in Santiago, Chile. His family was forced to leave the country in the wake of the military overthrow of Salvador Allende. In the spring of 1998, he traveled to Belfast, Ireland, to paint a mural of reconciliation between Protestant and Catholic community groups. He is known not only as an artist but also for his insightful writing, lectures, and spoken word performances. Letelier has completed murals, public artworks, and commissions throughout the United States, Latin America, and Europe, emphasizing his commitment to human rights and his passion for the environment. In 2009, L. A. Artcore honored Mr. Letelier as an artist, educator, and writer.
